Riot Fest Day 1: “It’s Fucking Slayer”

The setting sun glimmering across the sea of windows scattered about Denver’s skyline provided a picture perfect back drop for Riot Fest’s opening day. Friday’s lineup featured a diverse selection of music genres spanning nearly 4 decades. From the 1976 Buzzcocks to Die Antwoord, you could find your cup of tea, and enjoy it too.

As a metal head it could be considered biased for me to say Slayer stole the show; but it’s fucking Slayer, and they fucking killed it. Guitarist Kerry King starts shredding his guitar during “Raining Blood” and the entire festival stops, all eyes fixating on the pioneers of thrash metal.

Below is a gallery of Day 1’s highlights courtesy of featured LOKI photographer Brad Gustafson of SBG Photos. For full individual band albums, visit the SBG Photos Page.
