At this point there’s no questioning Maynard James Keenan’s creative ambition. Best known as the frontman of multi-platinum rock groups Tool and A Perfect Circle, Keenan has also dipped his hands into the worlds of sketch comedy, acting, winemaking (check out Caduceus Cellars), and co-owns a successful restaurant and organic produce market.

However, Keenan’s Puscifer side project might be his most inventive, and expressive, enterprise yet. Tuesday night at Denver’s Bellco Theatre, we were witness to a spectacle that was equal parts innovative and unexpected, leaving most of the Colorado audience speechless.

A performance to be enjoyed in the moment, Keenan has crafted a live act unlike any other; blending humor, randomness, satire, and musical expression with Mexican Luchador wrestling. At the show’s start, Keenan’s sardonic character “General Major Douche” courteously reminded us to avoid texting, Facebooking, Tweeting, Instagramming, and all of the things today’s audience does to ruin a good show. The act began with a real life rumble, with a handful of male and female Luchadores throwing down in a wrestling ring that would later play stage to Keenan’s vocals alongside British vocalist Carina Round, a music industry vet who is on tour with Puscifer.

Additionally, it looks like Colorado’s own UFC Women’s Bantamweight contender Cat Zingano was on location helping Puscifer prepare for their Tuesday night performance.

Tough crowd sheesh! @puscifer time to start the #moshpit Thank you #maynard for the experience. This was epic.

Zingano even got in the ring with Maynard James Keenan for a little pre-show wrestling. Keenan is an avid mixed martial arts fan and Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner, having recently earned his Purple Belt earlier in 2015.

If there’s one thing we can say about the multitalented Keenan, it’s that his performances always deliver. Do yourself a favor and catch Puscifer in your town. You won’t be disappointed.
